The aim of this test is to check that the fallopian tubes are clear and undamaged or blocked. This test is known as a Hysterosalpingo-contrast sonography (or HyCoSy for short).
It is a transvaginal ultrasound technique during which a special dye called Echovist is injected into the uterine cavity. It is a non-invasive procedure and provides the Fertility MOT team with invaluable information about the fallopian tubes and your uterine cavity.
A dye is needed because the fallopian tubes are not visible using traditional ultrasound and the dye will “outline” the inside channel of the tube.
The procedure is not painful but you may experience some discomfort, so taking a mild analgesia prior to the procedure is recommended. Your nurse will discuss this with you prior to your appointment.
It is advisable that this scan is carried out between day 8-10 of your cycle and the nurse will also discuss the timing of your appointment with you.
